Crossing lines with yporqué

yporqué SS20 collection based on

breaking rules and saving the planet

In case you don’t know this awesome brand yet, it’s about time you do! Today we bring our readers yporqué, a Barcelona-based brand created by three women with different educational backgrounds (design, advertising and psychology). By combining their knowledges, they were able to create a children’s clothing brand that, beyond fashion, maintains a very clear concept: a design made especially for children.

Since they are 100% focused on creating designs for children, fun and stimulating t-shirts have been yporqué’s stand-out product from the beginning. These pieces are created to stimulate all five senses for little ones by incorporating sounds, textures, games or glow-in-the-dark images.

Garments based on the interactive playful concept and the comfort-wear have become the brand’s trademark and yporqué’s SS20 collection follows this tradition. Divided into four lines linked to four colored stripes, the new collection brings a whole new range of fun and stimulating kids clothing.

The main novelties on this collection are the swimwear, introduced for the first time, and garments made from recycled plastic! yporqué’s recycled fabric comes from SEAQUAL™, a company dedicated to upcycling marine plastic into high-quality new fabrics, and in doing so to challenge marine pollution.

yporqué is a fun, rule-breaking brand that leaves a positive mark in the world and the people who chooses it. The most important lesson behind yporqué’s new collection? That sometimes we have to cross the lines to question some rules, re-define limits and open up new horizons. And who does that better than the little rebel ones?

This brand is so cool we couldn’t help but do a small interview with the founders! Have a look on what they have to say:

Hello girls,

Could you tell us more about you and when/how did the brand started?

yporqué team: yporqué was set up in Barcelona in 2007. The idea came almost by chance, when Andrea and Beth spent long afternoons with Andrea’s newborn. We started to trace the concept: a brand that focuses on the very people destined to wear it, or in other words, designed for children. In parallel, with all the illusion but without forgetting our reality, we thought of Elisenda, mother of three children, with psychology studies, administrative knowledge and eager to start work again. We called her, told her the idea of the project and she immediately joined it, with great enthusiasm, ideas, and time... So we had everything we needed to get it going on!

Can you tell us a little bit more about the inspiration behind the brand itself? And its name?

yporqué team:  The name refers to the question children ask endlessly as they are growing up (¿y por qué? ¿y por qué? ¿y por qué? In English Why? Why? Why?) and the idea of the company came from three women with different educational backgrounds, combining their knowledge to create a children’s clothes brand that is designed for children. yporqué’s creativity basically lies in each garment’s design. It’s not just in the colors or images but how each pattern is reformulated to turn it into a new design giving added value to any child wearing it.

What was the main motivation behind this summer line?

yporqué team: #CROSS_THE_LINES is the SS20 concept. The collection divided into 4 lines linked to 4 colored stripes. #RESPECT_THE_LOCALS is the first line, inspired by the global concerns regarding oceans. #THINK_FUN is the second attitude, to follow as a lifestyle. #BREAK_THE_RULES is the most active rule, inviting the use of the power of our voices to change the world. And #LEAVE_YOUR_MARK corresponds to the color green, thought to leave a positive and peaceful footprint on our planet. Because sometimes we have to #CROSS_THE_LINES to question some rules, re-define limits and open up new horizons.

Besides the use of textiles made from recycled plastic, what other sustainable actions does the brand take?

yporqué team:  The fact is that for SS20 we have centered the sustainable actions in this new recycled plastic line. We have presented some garments produced by a recycled fabric made of plastics collected from the bottom of the sea. Moreover, we have created the “LESS PLASTIC IS FANTASTIC” t-shirt, aimed at promoting recycling. This t-shirt is sold together with a bag made of the same recycled fabric, also produced by plastics collected from the bottom of the sea. The idea is to encourage kids to be PLASTIC CLEANERS VOLUNTEERS.

What is the main challenge when producing clothing to kids?

yporqué team: For sure, to try to connect with them… Being next to their feelings, creativity, needs and imaginary world.

Are there any news coming?  What is the Winter 2020-21 theme?

yporqué team:  The new FW 2020-21 is based on the hashtag #ASKWHY that translated in Spanish is really close to the brand’s name ;) The little yporqué #questioners are ready to #askwhy about everything: from FAQs to more complicated questions, including questions that seem to have no answer, innocent questions and questions that are just playing naughty.

And finally, what is your favorite city in the world? Why?

yporqué team:  Barcelona, because it has a little bit of all we need: good weather, good services, good art and architecture, good size, good feelings and good vibes ;)
